Team Australia is returning home after a successful performance at the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Turin, Italy, bringing home a total of 15 medals, including three gold, five silver, and seven bronze.

The Australian athletes showcased incredible skill, determination, and sportsmanship across multiple disciplines, competing against Special Olympics athletes from around the world in alpine skiing and snowboarding.

Among the standout performances, Lauren Kerjan and Trent Jones claimed gold in alpine skiing, while Craig Mulhbock, in his third World Winter Games, secured Australia’s first gold medal of the Games in snowboarding.

Special Olympics Australia CEO Pierre Comis praised the team’s efforts, saying:

“We are thrilled with Team Australia’s performance at the Special Olympics World Winter Games. Every member of the team gave their all — not just in competition, but in the way they represented Australia with pride and camaraderie.

“These Games are about more than medals; they are about breaking down barriers, celebrating ability, and showing the world what’s possible when everyone is given the opportunity to shine.

“We couldn’t be prouder of our athletes, coaches, and support staff who have worked tirelessly to make this campaign such a resounding success. They have inspired us all.”

The Special Olympics World Winter Games, held from March 8–15 2025, welcomed more than 1,500 athletes from over 100 nations, celebrating the power of inclusion in sport and the spirit of the Special Olympics.

Team Australia’s journey has been made possible through generous community support and the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) – a global champion of the Special Olympics movement.
