In early 2024, Special Olympics Australia and Total Recreation signed a formal agreement to provide quality sports training and competition pathways to people with intellectual disability/autism in the Northern Territory.

This new partnership will give athletes in the NT full access to Special Olympics competition pathways right up to the prestigious Special Olympics World Games where athletes get to represent their country on the world stage.

Sports currently on offer in the Northern Territory are: athletics, basketball, swimming and tenpin bowling.
