Going for Gold at the QLD State Games

May 2021

Meet Maddi, a Special Olympics athlete and Hireup user

In January this year we announced that we had partnered with Hireup, an NDIS registered online platform for people with disability to find, hire and manage their supports.

In March and April, the team from Hireup travelled to the Queensland state games. They met Special Olympics swimmer and Hireup user Maddi, and followed her journey over the games.

You can check out Maddi’s journey from high hopes of “bringing home more gold” at the state games opening ceremony to her eventual result.

Maddi is supported by Hireup support worker Carmen. Like most people exploring the NDIS for the first time, it was important to Maddi and her family to find the right support worker as well as a safe, supportive provider.

“It was a great relief to us to see that rigor that was applied before Carmen came to us,” says Maddi’s stepdad Steve. Hireup has helped Maddi and her family to “find another degree of freedom”.

HIREUP

If you’re looking for additional support you can register for Hireup and support Special Olympics by clicking here.

When athletes join Hireup they can choose for Hireup to send 1% of the cost of their services back to Special Olympics Australia. There is no additional cost to athletes – the 1% is funded by Hireup to support Special Olympics Australia’s work.

If you’d like to know more - or if you have other ideas about how Special Olympics and Hireup can work together - you can get in touch with Pat and Peter from the Hireup team at partnerships@hireup.com.au.
